The current state of play regarding returning to work is ever changing, as the government look to ease the lockdown restrictions that have been in place since the 23rd March. Recently, the government have begun to ease the freedom of movement of residents and business sectors begin to reopen, albeit under different working conditions than we have previously been used to.
The coronavirus is still a threat and as a result, there is still hesitance and fear among workers about the impact returning to their place of work may have on not only their health, but the health and well-being of their colleagues.
The government has published sector-specific guidance about what employers should do to minimise the chances of catching coronavirus at work and the following advice is applicable to any worker in any sector:
- If your employer isn’t complying with this guidance, talk to them.
- If your concerns aren’t resolved, you can report your employer to the Health and Safety Executive.
- If you’re worried about taking public transport to work, ask your employer if you can travel at quieter times of day.
- If you’re pregnant or considered vulnerable, stay at home and avoid face-to-face contact. Your employer should furlough people in your position if you’re unable to work from home.
